I originally posted this at Random Goofiness, but i don’t think it really fits. What humor there is is very subtle and brief so UnOb is a better choice.
This is about a real incident in which i was lucky enough to see an echidna in the wild, in a national park, as opposed to in the zoo. I was rather startled as i was under the impression they were nocturnal, mostly because Taronga Zoo keeps them in the nocturnal house for some reason.
Encounter With A Small Spiky Creature
Spiky waddler in the dappled sunlight,
you gave me just the tiniest fright.
What an unexpected sight to see,
though i doubt that you saw me.
Waddle waddle ‘neath a shady little plant,
unaware how easily and thoroughly you enchant.
Curled up, nested, and rested a while,
perhaps dreaming of ants in a pile!
Rise rise, scratch scratch, waddle waddle away,
blissfully unheeding of how effortlessly you captivate.
Perchance i will see you again some other rock-sitting day,
a welcome event that in me will several smiles create!
